I also furthered my Reiki knowledge to include Reiki for animals. This benefits both the dogs and I. As a dog groomer some of the dogs being presented to me had anxiety and found the salon extremely stressful. Whether this was caused by nervousness or past trauma, I began using Reiki within the grooming experience. It has reduced stress and boosted the relaxation to a deeper level. I have now been using Reiki to help calm nervous and anxious dogs for over 5 years.
I had previously attempted other techniques to enable me to groom challenging dogs, such as Tellington T-Touch and methods I had been taught throughout my time training at The Grooming Academy. These techniques were useful, but not for all dogs, I found Reiki to be more effective for the vast majority of dogs. It gave me an advantage as it calmed both the dog and I, therefore enabling me to groom dogs in a relaxed environment. I had many conversations with owners that couldn't believe I had managed to groom their dog so well, dogs that other groomers had struggled to work with. This allowed me to gain a trusting bond with the dog which inturn improves the dogs experience and the groom. My belief is the groom should go at the dog’s rate of tolerance, we should be regaining trust and creating a bond with the dog, so the difficult dogs feel relaxed enough to let us progress more each groom. I wanted dogs to enjoy coming to me for pampers and that’s what I achieved. I had many dogs that knew they were coming before they got close to the salon and then dragged their owners through the door.
My aging bullmastiff Kobi sometimes struggles to get up and seems stiff, after a session of Reiki he seems calmer, happier and even wants to play fetch something he doesn’t do as often anymore. He will approach me and give me a nudge as if to say “come on make me feel better”
I’ve been working with a lady and her recently paralysed dog. Reiki has been used alongside traditional medical interventions and physiotherapy to aid in the emotional and physical wellbeing of Wispa. Upon returning for the 2nd session, her owner said “it was as if she had accepted the new way of life”, her emotional blocks were removed. With every weekly session Wispa has received I have noticed a slight improvement in her, from legs twitching, to her slightly raising her backend off the floor and her hips seemingly moving as if she was walking. Wispa’s owner has been told it’s very unlikely she will walk again, these little victories may seem insignificant but all the same they are moving in the right direction. Wispas owner has since attended one of my Reiki training classes (Reiki First Degree with Reiki for dogs) and has learnt the techniques needed to give Reiki to Wispa as and when required. Wispa continues to thrive.
Animal Reiki is a gentle, yet effective complementary therapy that promotes deep relaxation and natural healing. It works by using energy to heal the animal on many levels, physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually. It is non-invasive and uses no pressure or manipulation.
Animals can suffer similar emotional and physical problems as us humans, therefore Reiki can help them in similar ways.
I have used Reiki in numerous situations including relaxing animals prior to inserting a microchip, within a dog grooming salon both beforehand and during the groom also at home with my own pets.
Reiki can be effective on dogs, cats, rabbits, hamsters, gerbils, birds, horses, farm animals and wild animals too.
The use of Reiki for Animals has many benefits such as:
In addition to providing Reiki for dogs, I also offer a Reiki training course would benefit anyone who lives with or works with dogs, such as groomers, doggy day-care providers, dog walkers, dog boarders or rescue centres etc
Lisa does a wonderful groom on both of my pooches. They aren’t the most calmest of dogs but Lisa still does a wonderful cut. She listens and does what I want and I feel safe leaving them in her care. She is always furthering her knowledge and skills for the best of all our dogs whilst ensuring that they look and smell amazing. Thank you Lisa Debbie Jenkins
